Open SaaS - NASDAQ: BIGC - Google Cloud

BigCommerce - the open SaaS platform for complex B2B and B2C commerce

BigCommerce is a cloud-native e-commerce platform for companies that need more than standard commerce - without the complexity and maintenance burden of an on-premises solution. The platform runs entirely on the Google Cloud Platform: no hosting, no patching, no infrastructure costs.

What makes BigCommerce structurally different from other platforms:
the API is completely open and without throttling - the basis for real
headless architectures, stable ERP connections and individual commerce
commerce logic. No transaction fees. No vendor lock-in on
frontend or checkout.

  • Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform, fully managed
  • API: Open, unthrottled - no extra charge for API usage
  • No transaction fees on payments
  • Payment methods: Apple Pay, Amazon Pay, PayPal, 65+ integrations
  • Natively integrated: Faceted search, SEO tools, customer groups, discount rules, marketplace interfaces
  • Headless-ready: Catalyst Storefront (Next.js & React)
  • Multi-storefront: multiple markets from one platform
The company

BigCommerce is an independent, listed company

BigCommerce (NASDAQ: BIGC) has been listed on the US technology exchange NASDAQ since 2021 - as an independent company without a parent company. This means for your platform decision: no strategic interests of a superordinate cloud, CRM or ERP group that pulls the product roadmap in a different direction.

BigCommerce continues to develop exclusively as a commerce platform - with full transparency through stock market reporting obligations and a clear focus on the core mission.

For medium-sized companies making a long-term platform investment, this is a relevant stability factor. Platforms that are part of larger technology groups can align their commerce strategy with corporate interests at any time - big commerce does not have to do this structurally.

WooCommerce - BigCommerce - BC4WP

BigCommerce vs WooCommerce - and the WordPress plugin

WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin: hosting, server infrastructure, PCI compliance, security patches and scaling are entirely your own responsibility. Any additional B2B functionality requires paid third-party plugins that need to be kept compatible, maintained and secured.
BigCommerce handles hosting, patching, PCI compliance, scaling and uptime as part of the platform - at no extra charge. B2B functions such as company accounts, price lists, CPQ quotation processes and invoice management are included natively. No plugin dependencies, no compatibility risks with updates.

IS THERE A BIGCOMMERCE PLUGIN FOR WORDPRESS?
Yes - "BigCommerce for WordPress" (BC4WP) combines both worlds: WordPress for content, BigCommerce for commerce backend. Current version: 5.1.2 (December 2024), compatible with WordPress 6.7.

Important: The native B2B Edition functions (Buyer Portal, CPQ, Invoice Management) are not fully available in the plugin context. For B2B projects with in-depth functional requirements, we recommend the native storefront or headless with Catalyst.
Native - Not retrofitted - B2B Edition Specialist

BigCommerce B2B Edition - native, not retrofitted

B2B commerce is not a simplified B2C store. The BigCommerce B2B Edition delivers all relevant functions for business customer commerce natively - without expensive third-party extensions or fragile plugin stacks.
Buyer Portal Complete self-service for business customers: Quotations, order history, invoices, reorder lists - less work for office staff.
CPQ - Configure, Price, Quote
Create quotes directly in the store, including custom items and mobile interface. Create company accounts directly from the quotation process.

Company accounts & hierarchies Parent/sub-account logic with roles and authorizations. From purchaser to approver - real purchasing structures can be mapped.
Quick Order & CSV upload Quick order via SKU input. CSV upload for bulk orders - no manual clicking for 50+ items.
Invoice Management & Net Terms Invoice overview in the Buyer Portal. Settle multiple invoices in one process. Net 5/15/30/45/60 days configurable.
Super Admin Masquerade Sales acts on behalf of the customer company: view shopping lists, complete orders - without customer access data.
Punchout / OCI / EDI & ERP Connection to SAP, HubSpot, Salesforce and procurement platforms. Open integration ecosystem without proprietary barriers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions to our BigCommerce agency

For which companies is BigCommerce particularly suitable? Medium-sized B2B retailers, manufacturers with direct sales and technical wholesalers with a turnover of around €20 million or more - especially when complex product data, multiple markets or headless requirements are involved. Typical sectors: Industry, technical wholesale, brand manufacturers DACH.
Is BigCommerce a stable, long-term company? BigCommerce has been listed on NASDAQ since 2021 (ticker: BIGC) and operates as a fully independent commerce company without a parent company. The platform roadmap follows commerce interests only - no dependence on CRM, cloud or ERP groups. Listed companies are also subject to strict reporting obligations, which ensures transparency regarding development, investments and strategy.
What can the B2B Edition do that other platforms can't? The B2B Edition delivers Buyer Portal, CPQ quotation process, company hierarchies, Invoice Management and Net Payment Terms natively - without third-party plug-ins. This lowers TCO and significantly reduces operational complexity.
BigCommerce or WooCommerce - which is better for B2B? WooCommerce is well suited to content-focused smaller stores with manageable B2B requirements. For medium-sized B2B companies with complex pricing structures, corporate hierarchies and international growth, BigCommerce is structurally superior: natively included B2B functions, no infrastructure responsibility, no plugin stack risk. If you want to keep WordPress as your CMS, you can use the BigCommerce for WordPress plugin - albeit with a limited range of B2B Edition functions.
What does BigCommerce cost? The platform costs are based on sales volume and range of functions - from Standard to Enterprise. As hosting, maintenance and updates are not required, the total cost of ownership (TCO) is structurally lower than for on-premises solutions such as Magento or Shopware On-Premises.
What does a BigCommerce migration cost? The costs vary depending on the system landscape, number of products and required integrations. Blackbit recommends a structured readiness analysis before every migration - we do this free of charge in the initial consultation.
How long does a BigCommerce migration take? Depending on the complexity, 8 to 20 weeks. With the Quick Start program, the first results are visible after just 90 days.
What distinguishes BigCommerce from Shopware? BigCommerce is completely cloud-native without a local server infrastructure. Shopware offers cloud and on-premises versions. BigCommerce scores with international scaling, native B2B functions, multi-storefront at no extra charge and low maintenance. Shopware is more strongly rooted in the DACH market and offers deep local customization options.
What is a BigCommerce B2B Edition Specialist? An official certification from BigCommerce for agencies with documented B2B implementation expertise. Blackbit is the only agency in the DACH region with this status - combined with Preferred Partner status since 2021.
Why Blackbit as a BigCommerce agency? Blackbit is the only agency with German headquarters among all BigCommerce B2B Specialized Partners worldwide - combined with a certified Pimcore partnership, over 25 years of SME experience and a service model that delivers setup, operation and growth from a single source. No handover after go-live.
